Gtech founder Nick Grey to step down as CEO after 25 years

Long-serving Managing Director Jothie Walford appointed CEO as founder returns to his roots.

British home appliance brand Gtech has today announced a landmark change in its leadership structure, with founder Nick Grey stepping down as Chief Executive Officer after 25 years. Jothie Walford, the company’s Managing Director, will succeed Grey as the new CEO, having been with the firm for nine years.

Since founding Grey Technology in 2001, Nick Grey has grown the company from a home-based startup into a household name, revolutionising the floorcare industry with the world’s first cordless power sweeper and the high-performance AirRAM range.

This strategic move sees Grey move into a new role with the firm, as he returns to his roots overseeing the company’s design arm. Operating from a new design hub in Europe, he will focus on engineering products for the brand with Gtech Global, without the responsibilities that come with being CEO.

Jothie Walford’s appointment marks a seamless transition for the brand. Having risen through the ranks and steered the company’s operations as Managing Director since 2022, Walford has been instrumental in Gtech’s global expansion, and maintaining its status as a leader in the technology market.

Nick Grey, Gtech founder and former CEO, said:

"Twenty-five years ago, Gtech sparked into life with a single idea at home. To see where we are now makes me incredibly proud. However, my heart has always been in the studio.
Having worked closely with Jothie for many years, I know there is no one better placed to lead this company. She has a deep understanding of the company, how our customers live, and how we operate. By handing the reins to her, I can focus my time and passion on designing products, in full confidence that Gtech is in good hands.”

Jothie Walford, Gtech CEO, said:

"I am honoured to lead Gtech into its next chapter. Working alongside Nick has shaped my commitment to remembering the people who use our products and the team that builds them.  As the company celebrates its 25th anniversary, I’m looking forward to building on his incredible legacy and continuing Gtech’s growth in the UK and beyond.”
